The YOLO Truth

Through a strange set of circumstances that only

a therapist’s astrological chart could devise, last

week in the span of 18 hours, three things occurred:

1. I had a therapy session with a client who was

coping with the loss of her husband several

years ago to cancer.

2. I celebrated my 17th wedding anniversary

with my husband.

3. A good friend just lost her husband to lung cancer.

A Friendly Reminder

I had an opportunity to think a lot about life,

death, love, loss, connection, disconnection,

friends, family, and what’s really important.

As much as I like to think I’m such a deep thinker,

I didn’t come to any earth-shattering conclusions.

It’s all stuff I already knew.

I just needed to be reminded of a few things.

I’m sharing them with you, because I don’t

know when I might take the time to do it again

and YOLO and all that…

We Have Right Now

I was reminded that we have right now.

No one is guaranteed a tomorrow, much less

the kind of tomorrow that one has hoped for,

dreamed for, worked for, and planned for.

We have right now.

If we are not doing what we want to, right now,

with the people we want to be doing it with,

we may want to do some adjusting.

Right now.

You Might Not Get A Chance

You may not have a chance to say a proper

goodbye to someone you love.

Sometimes we will know when someone we love

love is going to die. Most of the time, we won’t.

Life is unpredictable, and death can be even more

unpredictable.

One moment they are here. The next, they’re not.

It’s both that simple, and that complicated.

If there’s something you will want to know you

shared with someone, don’t wait for the right

moment.

Do They Know You Care?

Last week’s events reminded me that it doesn’t

pay to take things or people for granted.

One thing you don’t want to take for granted is

that others know how you feel.

You want to be certain that the people you

love know that you love them.

There will always be that “one more thing”

you’d like to add, but is the basic love you feel

understood by those you love? Is it a given?

If not, make it so.

Why not? You only live once.
